The Horta circuit, from the Porto Pim car park over the Monte da Guia and Monte Queimado peninsula. This headland carried the first transatlantic telegraph cable, landed in 1893 and working until 1969, which made Horta a relay station for Europe and America and mattered a great deal in both wars. The Lira viewpoint looks back across the bay to the São Sebastião fort. Easy, 3.4 km.
