Fajã de Lopo Vaz

The only way down into the Fajã de Lopo Vaz on the south coast, by the stone staircase the settler it is named after had built, and back up the same path. The fajã is a landslide platform facing full south, with a microclimate of its own: figs, strawberry guavas, currants and bananas grow on water from the single spring in a cliff over 350 metres high. Medium, 3.4 km, two hours.
