A short circuit above São Roque do Pico, up a cobbled lane beside a stream past a line of old watermills, then back down along the watercourse. It is the one walk on the island that starts in a town centre, from the bridge by the parish church, and the high point looks back over the village and the harbour. Easy, 3.3 km, an hour and a quarter.
