Santo Espírito - Maia

The island's easiest classified walk: downhill from the church at Santo Espírito east to the bathing area at Maia. It leaves past the Ethnographic Museum and follows the Caminho da Lapa to the Ribeira Grande, which has to be forded on foot — look back from the far side for the Aveiro waterfall, about 80 metres. It ends in Maia, where two wine presses dated 1579 still stand. Easy, 3.9 km.
