DAS CINZAS — Catastrophe and Adaptation in the Azores

In his first exhibition in Portugal, artist Champ Turner delves into the history of the Azores with 'DAS CINZAS — Catastrophe and Adaptation in the Azores'. This site-specific installation at the Museu Carlos Machado presents a blend of archival research, museum collections, and artistic practices. The exhibition highlights six pivotal events in the archipelago's history, from earthquakes and volcanic eruptions to agricultural crises. Turner's original works are displayed alongside museum pieces, offering a reflective view on how catastrophes have transformed and reinvented the territory and its communities.
