Chega/Açores seeks details on telework in regional administration
Chega/Açores has asked the Regional Legislative Assembly for information on telework use and oversight of remote workers in the regional administration.
Chega/Açores submitted a request to the Azores Regional Legislative Assembly to determine the extent of telework in the regional public administration and the mechanisms used to control the productivity, attendance and availability of remote workers.
The parliamentary group said telework cannot justify a deterioration in public service quality. It said telework became widespread as an exceptional response to the pandemic but remained in several regional administration services and became a common form of work organisation.
Deputy Francisco Lima said the problem was not telework itself, but a lack of clear rules, monitoring and accountability. He said telework can be useful when properly justified and monitored without harming the service.
Chega/Açores cited complaints from citizens and companies about difficulties contacting some regional services, delays in case processing, unanswered calls and emails, and an inability to contact technicians in person. The group said telework was often cited as the reason and defended productivity and attendance controls for remote work.
