Minimum flights ordered from Funchal during Friday’s public administration strike

The Direção-Geral da Administração e Emprego Público (DGAEP) has ordered minimum services for IPMA workers and flights from the autonomous regions to the mainland during Friday's public administration strike. The DGAEP arbitration panel made the decision after the Instituto Português do Mar e Atmosfera and the Federação Nacional dos Sindicatos dos Trabalhadores em Funções Públicas e Sociais failed to reach an agreement.
The minimum service includes flights required by critical situations, military flights and state flights. It also includes round-trip connections between Funchal and Lisbon, Ponta Delgada and Lisbon, and Ponta Delgada and Funchal, as well as one flight in each direction between Funchal and Porto Santo.
The decision says insularity does not mean that every air operation scheduled during the strike is an essential social need. It sets a minimum level of connectivity intended to meet essential needs without jeopardising normal air operations.
SATA will prepare a contingency plan to minimise operational disruption. The plan includes allowing passengers to change dates on inter-island flights without cost.
Three CGTP-linked public sector union structures called the 02 October strike, which covers about 350,000 workers in general careers across central, local and regional public administration. The unions are seeking immediate career valuation, recognition of the professions' specific features, and the immediate start of wage negotiations.
