PSP steps up patrols near Arrifes school
Azores GuidePolice say reports of masked people near schools have not been confirmed, but visible patrols are continuing in Ponta Delgada.
The PSP reinforced policing near EB2/3 dos Arrifes, in the municipality of Ponta Delgada, on 28 September after alerts that masked individuals in a vehicle were allegedly frightening minors.
The Azores Regional Command said a Ponta Delgada police team went to the area around the school on 25 September following a report of masked individuals inside a vehicle. Reports alleging the presence of masked individuals near schools also circulated on social media.
Authorities carried out inquiries and patrols following reported occurrences in the municipalities of Ponta Delgada and Ribeira Grande. The PSP said it was unable to identify suspects or vehicles, or confirm the facts reported by witnesses. It said the vehicle and masked individuals had not been verified at the time of its statement.
The PSP said it is maintaining a visible presence around schools and that the safety of students, teachers, non-teaching staff and guardians is fully guaranteed. It asked anyone with relevant information to contact police as quickly as possible and appealed for restraint in sharing unconfirmed images or content, to avoid unjustified panic or insecurity.

The report to police described the vehicle allegedly carrying the masked individuals as a black Audi.
